What is Artistic Integrity?

What is the meaning of artistic integrity and why is the word integrity so different in the arts? What's the incentive for becoming a true artist?

  1. You cause me to think about things that I would prefer not to...which is something that is always good for you.

The incentive for being a true artist? I ask myself first, what exactly is a true artist? I don't think I really know. Speaking strictly for myself,I draw and paint for two reasons. First to record what I see and experience around me in this world which we live. Secondly I use my art as a sort of tool in which I hope to discover a path that will take me to and help me discover what lies at the core of who and what "I" am.
As you can see, I am not a great thinker.

  2. Anonymous,

You are absolutely right, your second thought of using art to help you discover a path is exactly what true art breathes. In this case the word integrity in the arts is so different because an artist should only please him or herself, not the masses. The ability to grasp and depict the meaning of any piece of art is thinking at the core. You are indeed a great thinker.
